Week One

all seasons in one day 15 °C

I have arrived in England! I've been here for one week and I've been having an awesome time.

I left Monday, September 20th on a 6:30 pm flight that flew from Toronto to London Heathrow. Due to the fact that flights were cheaper if I flew into Heathrow instead of Manchester, I decided it would be better just to take the bus to Stoke-On-Trent from Heathrow. HA! Never EVER do that. Always spend the extra money to arrive at your destination as quickly and efficiently as possible, especially when you have a 70lb and 50 lb bag plus two carry-ons. I now know this for when I go to Lyon.

I finally arrived in Stoke late afternoon on Tuesday and met with Melanie and Reba, both students from the University of Ottawa who are here on an exchange as well. The rest of the day was spent walking around Stoke and Keele University (where we snuck into Keele Hall and did some exploring in the old mansion).

Wednesday we spent the day at the Trafford Centre in Manchester, with Reba's dad (who btw is phenomenal for taking us around everywhere and moving us into Keele). It was an absolutely amazing shopping centre! Ironically I did not spend anything except £20 on a calling card. Although I was totally tempted to buy some things from Ann Summers - just for laughs.

Thursday was move in day for all international students at Keele University. I spent the day unpacking my room and meeting students from all around the world: Australia, Nepal, Egypt, U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Sweden, Spain and Holland. I'm living in a block with three other international students which is quite fun! We've all become quite close.

Friday was considered induction day for International Students in which we had numerous meetings about our courses and how we will be graded here at Keele, as well as the Student life what with the Union and all the various clubs and societies.

I spent the weekend at Loughborough University to see John and came back on Monday. It was rather relaxing! Plus I got to buy my MOBILE!

I've joined up for fencing. Really, what am I thinking? I'm trying to find a women's intramural football team. Should be fun! I've also joined up for Amnesty International.

Courses start next week. Think I might be heading to Manchester this weekend, but we'll see. Miss everyone but LOVING ENGLAND!!
